About Lupus

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect various body systems, including joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs. It’s an autoimmune disease, which means that the body’s immune system attacks its own organs and tissues.

Symptoms vary depending on what body systems a particular person’s lupus affects, but they can include fever, fatigue, body aches, joint pain, rashes, skin lesions, and many more. It’s not completely clear what causes lupus, but some factors include genetics, environment, hormones, and infections.
