Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition associated with the gradual denigration of cartilage in the joints — and while it can occur anywhere in the body, the knee is one of the most common areas impacted. Current research estimates that 46% of people will develop knee OA in their lifetime.
For individuals diagnosed with knee OA, treatment options are limited. Temporary relief can be found through pain medications, knee braces, and steroid injections, but patients will generally have to consider a partial or total knee replacement as symptoms progress.
For these reasons, it is vital that studies take place to pioneer better treatments. With data from over 14,000 patients with a knee OA diagnosis, we have analyzed patients’ demographics in order to inform smart study design and patient outreach for successful enrollment.
