10 IVRS vendors for clinical trials

When managing a clinical trial, there are many moving parts to keep track of, from patient enrollment and randomization to drug supply ordering. Study coordinators use Interactive Voice Response Systems (IVRS) or Interactive Web Response Systems (IWRS) to enter patient information, blind patient information, randomize patients, and keep drug supplies organized for the trial.

Though the systems are simple, the terminology can be confusing. For example, IVRS is still one of the most commonly used terms for the technology, but web-response systems are now the norm. Other common terms for response systems for clinical trials include Randomization and Trial Supply Management (RTSM) technology and Interactive Response Technology (IRT). Each term refers to the technology used to enroll and randomize patients in clinical trials and manage drug supplies for the trial.

Whether choosing an IWRS or sticking with IVRS, most companies should be able to help with setup. In the past, trial setup for an IRT could take several months because each project had to be started from scratch. Now, even for complex trials, there are options for "out-of-the-box” solutions for ease of use. The IVRS vendors below are some of the market leaders. As you make your decision, we recommend you reference our guide to key features to look for in an IRT.

IVRS Vendors

Cenduit: "Today’s IRT systems have a need for speed. The faster they can be built and deployed, the faster your trial can start getting results. To get that speed, you need a state-of-the-art IRT platform that combines the fast set-up times of configurable systems with the flexibility of custom programming. You need a platform that’s user-friendly, mobile-ready, and comprehensive in scope. You need Cenduit."

Eclipse: "Eclipse IRT serves as a platform for our extensible web application suite. IRT seamlessly integrates with other technology solutions, like Electronic Data Capture (EDC),  to allow you to easily inform data management teams to updates in your clinical trial."

ITClinical: "Our Interactive Response Technology (IRT), covers IWRS and IVRS (and the client gets to decide which modules to include when we configure their system).  It is a full fledged RTSM (Randomization and Trial Supply Management) solution that tracks your product throughout the entire clinical trial (including dispensing!). The IWRS can be used in any type of clinical trial, including medical devices."

IVR Clinical Concepts: "IVRCC’s applications will handle implementation of a wide variety of randomization methods. From the simple to the quite complex, we cover all procedures to achieve balance: including simple, block, stratified, covariate adaptive, biased coin randomization, minimization methods, Sequential Parallel Study Design (SPCD), and unequal randomizations."

Medpace: "ClinTrak® IVRS/IWRS is customized to provide the exact level of functionality required for your study including real-time subject status/visit tracking, drug supply/shipment management, and randomization. Features touch-tone phone-based and web-based interfaces for global access by authorized clinical site personnel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."

PPD: "Interactive voice response (IVR) and interactive web response (IWR) systems are technologies that allow a computer to detect voice and/or keypad inputs or gather data through a web-based system.  Interactive response technology (IRT) is the standard industry system that references IVR, IWR or the combination of both."

Suvoda: "Suvoda IRT with Trial Intelligence offers the flexibility of a customized solution with the speed of a configurable system, along with industry leading supply management functionality and reporting; all designed to give you peace of mind in managing your complex clinical trials."

Veracity Logic: "Our IRT platform includes both Interactive Web Response (IWR) and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) components. We provide a clean, table-based, low graphics intensity solution which our customers have found appealing for its wealth of features, ease of use, and speed."

YPrime: "YPrime’s IRT is an end-to-end solution that lets you dynamically manage clinical supplies and patient interactions. It’s also configurable and customizable, based on your trial-specific needs."
